Purpose of the Role The purpose of this position is a focus on creating programs and policies that support education, community engagement, and building relationships. The position supports, facilitates, and coordinates engagement in the community while liaising with a wide variety of stakeholders. This role collects data, conducts research, and completes various administrative tasks within the Administration while helping to provide advice to decision-makers surrounding the Tribunal Process (investigation of offenses, enforcement of laws) and community preventative strategies related to health and wellness, future planning, and mentorship. Key Responsibilities: • Investigate and support enforcement of all KFN laws and issue permits, warnings, tickets or violation notices • Respond to public inquiries and complaints regarding public safety, lands, and environmental concerns • Liaise with other governmental, law enforcement and regulatory agencies, including: KFN Health, RCMP, SPCA, Ministry of Environment, Conservation Officers, Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure and Comox Fire Department • Developing, designing and implementing community safety programs • Developing relationships and working in partnership with the RCMP on KFN law enforcement strategies • Supporting/administering an Indigenous community based restorative justice program and initiatives • Supporting Management in the creation of developing any policies or processes related to programs or funding opportunities that are dept/role specific • Preparing and administering any funding opportunities for programs related to law enforcement, education and prevention strategies • Preparing K’ómoks First Nation funding applications related to community safety and law enforcement • Conducting all Dept related administrative filing as required • Supporting the Administration in the monthly Community Safety Meetings • Monitoring of all the third party security groups, targeted reports, member videos, and commentary for K’ómoks First Nation IR#1 security • Managing and preparing any reports or administrative briefings for Council regarding community safety and law enforcement • Supporting members with any forms, waivers and permits that may be required • Establish and implement a mentoring program for community safety related tasks • Preparing and supporting projects within the Lands Department that relate to community safety • Preparing, researching, and supporting the creation of KFN Laws and Policies with the Lands Manager • Consulting and collaborating with other departments • Supervising summer students during short term projects • Perform other related duties as required. Qualifications: • 2+ years of experience working in an administrative role within an office environment • 2+ years of experience working in and with the Indigenous community preferred • Completion of a post-secondary program in a related field or equivalent experience is an asset • Prior law enforcement experience is an asset • Education and/or experience in healthcare-related programs such as addictions and suicide prevention an asset • Cultural sensitivity and awareness with thorough knowledge of the current First Nations governance landscape in BC and knowledge of relevant socio-historical events relevant to First Nations in Canada • Criminal Record Check with a satisfactory result • Computer literate in Microsoft Office with proficiency in Excel and Word • Strong written and verbal communication skills Application Information If this opportunity to work with a growing indigenous organization appeals to you, please apply online with your resume and cover here: https://engagedhr.teamtailor.com/jobs/4096021-community-safety-coordinator?promotion=993134-trackable-share-link-community-safety-coordinator This posting will remain open until filled.
